NOTE: make sure you aren't near places that can cause static electricity.
Here are the things you will need:
1. Philip screwdriver
2. Computer Case
3. Power supply unit
4. Motherboard
5. CPU (central processing unit)
6. (Optional) sound card
7. GPU or Graphics Card
8. RAM/memory
9. Heat sink Fan
10. HDD or Hard Disk Drive
Choosing the right parts
Make sure when choosing the things everything has to be able to go together.
This is mainly the motherboard, focus on the CPU and the RAM.
If you get a motherboard that only supports Intel processors it's not going to work with an AMD processor. If the motherboard says it will support DDR2 RAM it will only support DDR2 RAM and nothing else. Make sure you always keep that in mind!
Building it
Well first off I like to start with the Power supply since there's a whole bunch of wires. I would recommend a modular PSU since you just plug in wires you need instead of all those unused wires hanging out.
Screw in your PSU where it fits into your case (top or bottom).
Now the motherboard, line it up where you can screw it on on the case.
Hard Disk Drive and DVD Drive
Putting in the HDD is easy just put it in the slot and screw it in. I think if your building a totally brand new computer the HDD will either be SATA or SATA2.
The DVD drive is just like the HDD. Also you can have more than one HDD or DVD drive!
Hooking it up
Find the big 24 pin connector and plug it into the motherboard where it fits.
To put in the CPU flip back the lever and flip the other protector if you have it and place the CPU in carefully!
You don't want to break the pins on the bottom; the CPU should just slide in.
You should next install the heat sink with the fan above the CPU. The heat sink sometimes come with thermal paste.
Now the fans has the little clips that would fit around the CPU, just clip it on and make sure it's locked into place.
Plug in your fan, it should have a 4 pin or 8 pin.
Plugging your RAM is very easy pull the levers back and plug it in. If you bought the right RAM it should go in with ease, if you have the wrong RAM it will not fit.
Plugging in the DVD drive and HDD if you have a IDE DVD drive plug it into the IDE slot on the motherboard. The HDD might have a SATA cable which you plug on the motherboard and the HDD.
NOTE: SATA cables are red.
The graphics card will fit into the PCI-E slot and just plug it in. The motherboard may contain more than one PCI-E slots.
NOTE: The Graphic card might need more power from the motherboard to work, so plug in the 6 or 8 pin into the motherboard.
You can also have more than one graphic card.
Sound card they go into the PCI slots right next to the PCI-E slots.
Finally the fans. Most fans use Molex connectors, they can be connected somewhere on the motherboard.
That's mostly it!
